Beef Casserole

Perfect winter fare. A recipe every home-chef should own.
750g stewing steak
2 onions
1 carrot
2 stalks celery
1/2 capsicum (optional)
1+1/2 cups water
4 tablespoons flour (4x20ml spoons)
salt, pepper
1/4 teaspoon mixed herbs
3 tablespoons (3x20mls) tomato paste
1 tablespoon (1x20ml spoon) worcestershire sauce
Preheat oven 150C.
Remove excess fat from meat.
Dice into 2cm cubes and place in a plastic bag with flour, herbs, salt and pepper.
Shake well and place in casserole dish.
Wash, peel and chop vegetables and place over meat.
Pour water into a small bowl. Add tomato plaste and worcestershiresauce and stir.
Pour over casserole dish and stir meat and vegetables together.
Cover with foil and cook in a slow oven for 1+1/2 hours.
To make the casserole more hearty, you could try adding in:
2 potatoes
1 turnip
2 rashers of bacon
2 tablespoons of fresh Parsley
1/2 cup of peas
Serve with rice, pasta or mashed potatoes.
